Using LinkedIn to get your next job

Are you, like lot’s of others, using LinkedIn to get your next job?

As part of your job search, you have probably spent time improving your LinkedIn profile because you’ve heard that it’s the place to find your next job. That may well be true but just how good is your profile and is it working for you?

Until recently I thought I knew all I needed to know about LinkedIn as a job search tool until, that is, I was introduced to LinkedIn Recruiter and taken through it step by step!

So what is LinkedIn Recruiter?

This is a part of LinkedIn that, like most people, you have probably never heard of. However, it is the number one reason that you should head over to LinkedIn and revamp your entire profile. It is something that the majority of us never get to see yet while you can easily search jobs and companies on LinkedIn, LinkedIn Recruiter can only be accessed by companies and recruiters who pay to use it for hiring and sourcing candidates. In fact, companies and recruiters who use Recruiter can see your profile without you even knowing that they are looking at it and they do so in order to search for candidates in what is considered to be the world’s largest talent pool.

Recruiters and hiring managers from thousands of companies, including BP, Unilever and Google for example, now have a tool that enables them to easily trawl through the millions of profiles on LinkedIn and keep track of people who may be of interest to them.

With an increasing number of companies using Recruiter (many of whom are extremely cautious of candidates who are not on LinkedIn) and because LinkedIn has more than 200 million users it is becoming very hard for other companies to compete with LinkedIn Recruiter as a tool for finding suitable candidates. This is why it is more important than ever to ensure that your profile is of a high standard and is ‘findable’ by recruiters who use the Recruiter tool.

Even if you are not looking to change job at the moment, who wouldn’t consider a job offer if you were approached by a recruiter who considered you to have the required skills and experience?
