The first blog post from my new website looks at how frequently you should blog. How often should I blog? is a great question which someone who is considering starting a blog, asked me on Saturday.
That depends on you and what you hope to achieve by blogging was my answer.
As many of you know, I haven’t written a blog post for a number of weeks now which is very unusual for me as I regularly blog at least once a week but that is because I have been working (with help from a very patient and helpful web designer) on creating
this great new website and now I’m back with loads of useful hints and tips to inspire you.
So how often should you blog? Well, when I recently did some research about the frequency in which bloggers blogged I was bombarded with information that said if you want to increase your following by X% then you should blog several times a day whereas if you only want to increase your following by Y% then you should blog at least 2 or 3 times a week. I have to say that the word ‘should’ annoyed me a bit here. Who says when we should and why we should blog so frequently?
Surely what is more important than the frequency of the blogs is their content. There are people who blog great content only once a week or even once a month and they do just as well as those who blog 2 to 3 times a day. You need to decide what is right for you taking account of the amount of time you have available and what you want to achieve from blogging. If you write compelling content that people want to read about then they are more likely to keep returning to your site to see what else you have to say and they may even start to add comments to your blog and this is how you build up a rapport with people.
As with so much in life, you have to find the right balance for you so when you feel in the mood for writing, consider writing several posts and schedule them to be published at different times rather than all at once or save them up for a time when you are experiencing writers block!
Was I wrong for not blogging recently? – no, because I took the conscious decision over the last few weeks to spend the limited time that I was not working with clients to update my website so that I could make it easier for you to access all the information previously contained in my separate website and blog via one simple site. I’d be interested to hear what you think of it so feel free to add a comment.
And later in the week I’ll be back on track looking at some career change issues so make sure you add this page to your favourites or subscribe (the button is on the top right corner of this page) to be notified of updates to make sure you don’t miss out!
