There are a lot of people who have jobs that they don’t enjoy but they stick with it because they don’t know what else to do; they know their dream job is out there if only they could find it! And there are many others about to start out on their career journey also wondering what direction to take.
So how do you answer the question, what is the right career for me?
Many people spend hours and hours on this. Trying to find their passion and purpose in life or figure out what their hidden talents are so they can go and find the ‘right’ job. It drives them crazy going over and over it in their mind but never actually finding the answer.
My response to this is STOP! You are wasting your time. You will never find your passion by looking for it this way and if your next job doesn’t turn out to be the ‘right’ one, see it as a stepping stone; you will still learn a lot from it.
If you want to find your passion, it’s time to start having some fun and thinking outside the box.
- What are all the things you love to do or have loved to do in the past (and it doesn’t have to be work related)?
- What do you wish you had more time for?
- When was the last time you really had fun – what were you doing?
- What are some of the things that you are really good at? Ask friends to tell you because you may just take these things for granted.
Go out and try something new and be open to new experiences.
Stop putting pressure on yourself to find your passion and purpose. Instead, open your eyes and ears to what is going on around you and take time to appreciate them. This way you will open your mind and your purpose is more likely to find you!
