Black Monday – how to avoid the January Blues

by | career success | 0 comments

Apparently Monday 16th was the most depressing day of the year. Whoever decided that?  Here it was very cold and frosty but the sun was shining and who can feel down for long when the sky is clear blue with hardly a cloud?  Today it is back to being grey and wet so I guess it is understandable for some people to suffer from the January blues!

We all have days like this and it doesn’t really matter where we live but what is important is to have a tool or technique that works to pull you out of it. For me it usually is to go for a long walk but I have a beautiful new kitten who at the age of 12 weeks has already mastered the art of making people smile.

So yesterday I sat down with her on my knee and flipped through the pages of my Success Journal and it was amazing the impact that it had. (A Success Journal is a bit like a diary, though you don’t have to write in it every day. There are certain rules to keeping a Success Journal, the most important being that you can only write positive things in it. In short it is like a list of all your achievements no matter how small).

The thing is, it is just too easy to forget all the good things you have done or achieved in your life so it is well worth the few minutes it takes to note them down – everyone has achieved something in their life. Then, when you have a day when you feel fed up, not able to achieve/do anything and basically can’t be bothered, or the negative voice in your head starts telling you of all the things you can’t do, you take a read through your Success Journal and it is a great pick-me-up.

I now feel in a position where I can start to write some targets or goals for things that I want to achieve this year. These are not New Year’s Resolutions because I always break them! These are things that I want to achieve and know that I can if I follow the techniques for setting and achieving goals that I use with my clients.

If you would like more information to help you set and/or achieve your goals for the year, please contact me or take a look at Your Future – A practical guide to action which takes you step by step through the process.

This year I will be bringing you even more useful hints and tips to inspire your success along with a new series of monthly Guest Blogs by some inspirational expat business women that I know so don’t forget to enter your
