I am getting toward the end of this series of blog posts covering a range of career change issues and in a few weeks I’ll be looking at other options open to you if you really feel that you need to get out of the job you are in or are just looking for other ways to make a living. But today, I’d like you to think about how you are unique.
In the last few weeks, among other things, I have been helping people to update and re-write their C.V.s . This is one part of my job that I really enjoy doing and it never ceases to amaze me just how much people learn about themselves during these sessions.
Quite often when I first meet clients who are looking for help with their C.V. they think that all it will take is one session and they will go away with a winning C.V. What they fail to realize, at least initially, is that I don’t know them so I don’t know what their qualifications, chievements, skills, unique selling points etc. are and in fact, 9 times out of 10, neither do they. This is why it actually takes several sessions and a lot of questioning to finally put together a great C.V and to date, all my clients have found these sessions extremely useful and a real eye opener!
I’m not wanting to talk about the best ways to update your C.V. here as I have covered that in previous posts; instead I want you to appreciate the importance of identifying what makes you unique i.e. what is your personal brand, what is your ‘Me Plc’?
In this economic climate it is even more important to have a really clear personal brand so that you can sell yourself on your C.V or at an interview. It is equally important if you run your own business because it is the best way for people to identify you as the person they want to do business with. In fact it is also important if you want to have a great profile on your social media sites.
