About.me – an online self promotion tool

by | career success | 0 comments

Yesterday’s news in Dutch News.nl was pretty depressing reading for anyone currently looking for a job,

Dutch employers are extremely gloomy about employment prospects in the coming period, according to a survey of 42 countries by staffing agency Manpower”.

In fact the article, which was based on a survey of 750 employers in the Netherlands, went on to say that, “Employers in eight of the nine industry sectors forecast negative headcount  growth during the first three months of 2013”.

Of course this means that for every new vacancy there will be even more applicants making it even more important that you find every opportunity to stand out above the
other applicants and with more and more recruiters turning to the internet to find potential candidates, you need to find new ways to be found and stand out which is why I want to tell you about a new tool that can help you do just that.

About.me offers registered users a simple platform from which to link multiple online identities, relevant external sites, and popular social networking websites. Basically it is a one page personal promotion tool and best of all it is free.

I created my page yesterday and found it very easy to use; you can check it out here, http://about.me/anne.galloway and then click on the tab at the top of the page to sign up and create your own!

Of course you will still need to have a killer elevator pitch which will grab the reader’s attention and get them wanting to find out more about you, your experience and
achievements. Here are a few tips to get you started: https://power-to-change.eu/how-to-create-an-effective-elevator-pitch/
