7 most difficult interview questions and how to answer them – question 2

by | interview tips | 0 comments

Why are you interested in this job?

When asking this question, the interviewer is looking to see if you really are interested in the job and whether you have done your research on the company. If this is the case, then it gives you a great opportunity to highlight how your strengths and skills are just what are required for the job.

You can say things like,

“This is a great opportunity for me as I like a job with a challenge and this position will enable me to use my experience and XYZ skills to actually make a difference”

“My understanding is that this company is growing and according to your website, you are planning to launch some major new products. I want to be a part of a company that is forward looking and encourages employee development.”

“I want this job because…”

“I know that I would be a good fit for this job because…”

If you have heard that it is a great company to work for, one that supports and listens to its employees, then say so.

Of course you have to have done your preparation.  You need to know a lot about the company, the direction it is heading in,  it’s vision and values so that you can relate them to your own values and  career plan. Re-read the job description and read between the lines so you know exactly how your skills and experience will be of benefit in this position. Where possible, give an example of where using these skills has contributed to the success of a previous job or project and say how you want to add this sort of value to this position.
