3 reasons for using LinkedIn to ensure your career success

LinkedIn plays an integral part in your career success yet few people are actually making the best use if it.  There are many who set up a profile on LinkedIn and connect with a few people and believe that is enough. Unfortunately it’s not!

That is why I am giving my top 3 reasons for using LinkedIn to ensure your career success

  • Personal development – we are constantly learning and by connecting and interacting with people in your industry you have the opportunity of not only sharing your knowledge but also of learning from other experts in your field. This enables you to build a strong online identity which can help you achieve your career goals faster. On the whole, people like it when they are asked for help or advice and so this opens up a great opportunity for you to turn your career around. Ask for help and advice, join discussions and get known.
  • The hidden job market – through LinkedIn there are numerous ways of tapping into the hidden job market. By networking and being perceived as an expert in your field, you have a better chance of being approached or told about vacancies before they are advertised which means that you may not have to compete with so many applicants. This is why it is really important to have a complete professional profile that highlights your strengths and achievements so that recruiters and head-hunters can find you. If you can confidently showcase your talents and experience, the chances are that you will get approached about job vacancies even when you are not looking for a new job.
  • Personal brand – writing your LinkedIn profile is all about creating a strong personal brand. It is therefore the ideal opportunity to really take time to think about your career and the direction it is heading as you consider; what it is you really want to do, why you want to do it and who you want to do it for. A strong personal brand can be extremely powerful in attracting career success.

Remember that future employers will look you up on LinkedIn because it can provide so much more information than your CV alone so make sure you take the time to review your profile regularly and connect and interact with as many people as possible.
